Human Resources

  • Advertise, recruit, interview, negotiate salaries, hire, train, supervise and evaluate performance of assigned departmental support staff, lab demonstrations specialist and lab preparation technician. Resolve employee relations and performance problems. Counsel employees concerning disciplinary problems. Create and review job descriptions. Approve vacation and sick leave records. In consultation with staff, implement office policies and procedures.
  • Act as human resource coordinator for department. Assist human resources with employee problems. Advise faculty, staff, postdocs and other employees and visitors on operation procedures, employment policies, personnel issues, benefits and assist with solving problems. Inform faculty of deadlines and assist with preparation of sabbatical leaves, personal leaves, and formal study leaves per university guidelines.
  • Oversee the foreign national program for visitors and employment of foreign nationals. Initiate IAP Fact forms for J-1's, H-1's petitions, and Labor Certifications. Monitor foreign national employees to insure timely renewal of visas. Solve problems.
  • Oversee the faculty recruitment: Obtain approval of ad from Human Resources, submit ads to journals. Acknowledge receipt of applications. Coordinate the procedure and organization of applications. Send regrets to unsuccessful applicants and candidates. Prepare offer letters to prospective candidates. Collect affirmative action data and prepare affirmative action reports for filled positions.
  • Prepare and approve all human resource IBIS forms for all faculty, technical service employees, postdoctoral scholars, staff assistants, and other non-standing appointments.
  • Responsible for maintenance of confidential files on personnel, salary budgets, salary increases, and budget planning information.
