Undergraduate Research

The Department of Physics hosts multiple summer undergraduate research programs.

The National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) focuses on research in Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. Positions are available in various Penn State departments and are open to undergraduate students who are majoring in physics, chemistry, material science, all branches of engineering, etc. and have an interest in materials research.

The Physics Department itself provides funding for Penn State students to conduct research in any research group in the department.

Students from across the country and from University Park are eligible to apply and will experience the challenge and excitement of a career in research. Students work closely with one of Penn State's faculty members, together with graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in their research group. In addition students are able to acquire valuable skills, participate in seminars and join in a variety of extra-curricular activities.

Please visit the main REU page for more information.
